Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 2
The social group in our horror film is teenagers. Our main character who is represented as a young girl seems to have authority over the teenagers as she is able to murder them. 'Carolina' who is the young girl is the villain of the film. And this conforms the stereotype of a villain usually being a older person in most cases as she is a young girl who most would assume she not capable of causing any harm.
In the image below on the right we can see the main character of our film 'Carolina' who is a young girl we portrayed her as a young girl to make the audience feel uncomfortable whilst watching the film as she isn't suppose to be a killer so it makes it seem more absurd and will make the audience want to know what happens next with this young girl. The next image you see towards the left is of Samara Morgan from the film 'The Ring' her character and the way she looks is exactly what we wanted to achieve with 'Carolina' that sweet innocent look but they are actually very evil which makes the audience more intrigued as to what will take place next, as well as the simple fact that a young girl shouldn't be killing people as it is out of character for them to do so. I like this effect because everyone is so used to children being very sweet and gentle so when they do something scary it will really creep the audience out.

Evalution Question 1
Setting/Location: whilst researching horror films and looking at different horror film convection's and i looked at the typical type of locations you may find in a horror film for example isolated houses, woods & haunted houses etc. our horror films location is in a house and is set in a bedroom and a garden. in the above image you can see a young girl swinging on the chair this should be a quite normal thing for some but it creates a scary effect because keeps the audience wondering what is going to happen next. the next clip we see the character in a bed this is to make to audience feel uncomfortable as a bedroom is usually where most people take place, but in this case it is where the young girl goes crazy within the next few scenes.
Title: With our title we didn't really want a dramatic over the top title as that's not what you would usually see in a horror film. We decided to use a black background with white writing to create excitement on we got our inspiration from the title on the movie 'sinister' as it also has this simplicity to it and it doesn't give away to much of the movie.
Font & Style: We decided to choose a simple font size to match with the simplicity of the title.
costume/prop: as we did our research on horror film conventions we have released that the outfit and the colors of an outfit can really show the characters personality. we decided to dress our character in a pale white dress to suggest she is pure and vulnerable this converts the stereotype of a person being dressed in pale colors as our character is know where near pure or vulnerable. we made this decision so that the audience can get that creepy uncomfortable feeling whilst watching the film.
camerawork/editing: in the above image you can see a slight transition of Carolina from when she is sitting on the swing until when she is laying down in her bed. she decided to use this transition to show to the audience that everything that happened in the before clip was a dream. i believe the use of this transition was effective because it made the story line of our film more clear. throughout our film we tried to use a various amount of camera shots to create different meaning, we had a pan to help reveal our characters and this pan was used to make the audience feel uncomfortable because they are first being reveled to the characters in an unfortunate way. we also used close ups to show characters facial features and to try and portray how they are feeling.
story and how opening is set up: we wanted our opening to be very intriguing to our audience so we aimed to make it something that they will want to continue to watch, the main inspiration for our film was the film 'sinister' so we got an idea from the pan shot they had and made it our own because we thought it was very effective whilst showing a pan showing a different amount of shots of the young girl on the swing who killed them.
how characters are introduced: we introduced our characters in a various amount of ways. our main character Carolina was first introduced with a medium close up of her face her facial expressions were quite unclear on the start but this effect was effective because it will leave the audience wondering what is happening and what will happen next. we introduced the dead characters with a pan shot in which you could see their faces and it was clear that they were dead.
genre and how opening suggest it: the genre of our film is a mixture with a horror and mystery the opening of our film suggest that its a horror by the use of the spooky Eyre non dietetic sound which will make the audience feel nervous and leaving them wondering on what could happen next. there is also that darkness atmosphere in the scene.

Evaluation Question 7
The preliminary task enabled me to experiment with a variety of different camera angles and shot types. This progressed as I did my final horror piece as I was more familiar with the different shot and camera angles and was able to use them better.
Preliminary Task. Horror Film.
The second images from the preliminary task we can see the teacher from a low angled shot, we decided to use this shot to represent the teacher as being superior, but we did have difficulty filming this shoot because we were trying to fit most of the character into frame with such little space. In contrast to our film where we decided to show our protagonist in a sort of disorientated way through the use of a tilt. We thought by introducing our protagonist through the use of a slow tilt from the toes upwards would create a mysterious unearthly feeling for the audience, which is on of the main factors of a horror film.
The third images we can see two different images that contain and over the shoulder shot. Whilst shooting an over the shoulder shot in our preliminary task it was quite difficult to achieve due to there not being enough space and not being able to position the camera properly as planned. This over the shoulder shot in the preliminary task doesn't seem as effective compared to the over the shoulder shot our horror film. From the over the shoulder shot in our horror film it is far more accurate and the purpose of doing that shot was much clear as we were trying to show our protagonist during ideas for her next killings.
The last images from our preliminary task and horror film display two-shots. In our preliminary task the two shot consist of the teacher and student talking. We decided to use this medium two shot to show that the student is sitting down whilst the teacher is standing up, we did this to show that the teacher has more power over the student who is sitting down as they aren't on the same level. In contrast to our horror film opening were the image above displays the two victims laying on the floor filmed from a high angle shot to represent their weakness and vulnerability the positioning of the victims in this shot is much clearer compared to the preliminary task. This helped me to understand that using a two shot is vital when it comes to filming because it helps the audience to understand the relationship between the two characters being shown in the frame as well as well as their status to one another.
Evalution Question 6
FreeSFX: From the website freesfx sound my group and I were able to access and download a variety of sounds that were also legal for us to use. There was such a diverse range of sounds that I didn't know existed which were really beneficial for the the clips in our horror film.
Youtube: I have already been using Youtube before my media lessons as a way of finding new music new videos and news in general. For my media product I had to create a Youtube account in which I had to upload different assignments I was given such as: my preliminary task, my horror film rough cuts, my animatic and my final horror film
Final Cut: I used Final Cut Pro to edit my preliminary task as well as using it to edit my horror film which was then later uploaded to YouTube. I was very unfamiliar with the software and wasn't sure on how to use it, doing my preliminary task before doing my horror film really helped my group and I to become more familiar with the software and enabled us to be more aware and have more of and insight of how to use the different effects and editing techniques with the software.
Survey Monkey: Survey Monkey was a serviceable resource as I used it to create a questionnaire to find out what kind of things my audience who enjoy to see in a horror film. This lead to me to be able to have a better understanding of what my audience would like to see in there horror films and be able to create a film that would suit all my target audiences needs as well as still using horror film convection.
Prezi: I wasn't aware of Prezi until I began media I used Prezi to create a presentation discussing our horror film opening scene pitch I found Prezi more engaging and creative compared to a simple power point presentation due to the different types of transitions and pop up effects they had.
Blogger: I produced a blog in which I was able to post all of my planning and research and all the task and assignments I was given to by my teacher. I was also able to access my teacher blog which had all the homework listed with the deadlines so I can also keep up to date as well as being aware of what to do.
