The preliminary task enabled me to experiment with a variety of different camera angles and shot types. This progressed as I did my final horror piece as I was more familiar with the different shot and camera angles and was able to use them better.
Preliminary Task. Horror Film.
The second images from the preliminary task we can see the teacher from a low angled shot, we decided to use this shot to represent the teacher as being superior, but we did have difficulty filming this shoot because we were trying to fit most of the character into frame with such little space. In contrast to our film where we decided to show our protagonist in a sort of disorientated way through the use of a tilt. We thought by introducing our protagonist through the use of a slow tilt from the toes upwards would create a mysterious unearthly feeling for the audience, which is on of the main factors of a horror film.
The third images we can see two different images that contain and over the shoulder shot. Whilst shooting an over the shoulder shot in our preliminary task it was quite difficult to achieve due to there not being enough space and not being able to position the camera properly as planned. This over the shoulder shot in the preliminary task doesn't seem as effective compared to the over the shoulder shot our horror film. From the over the shoulder shot in our horror film it is far more accurate and the purpose of doing that shot was much clear as we were trying to show our protagonist during ideas for her next killings.
The last images from our preliminary task and horror film display two-shots. In our preliminary task the two shot consist of the teacher and student talking. We decided to use this medium two shot to show that the student is sitting down whilst the teacher is standing up, we did this to show that the teacher has more power over the student who is sitting down as they aren't on the same level. In contrast to our horror film opening were the image above displays the two victims laying on the floor filmed from a high angle shot to represent their weakness and vulnerability the positioning of the victims in this shot is much clearer compared to the preliminary task. This helped me to understand that using a two shot is vital when it comes to filming because it helps the audience to understand the relationship between the two characters being shown in the frame as well as well as their status to one another.
